TIA Home Design

Many people can only dream of having their name in lights, but the owners of this Yuen Long flat can boast just that. Geometric LED ceiling lights spell out their names on the ceiling of the living room. This apartment has been designed as a truly personalised reflection of its owners who are passionate photographers and collectors.

The 725 square feet flat didn’t provide much space to work with. But clever architectural details, plus plenty of storage space to display the owners’ treasured items, make the apartment seem larger than it actually is.

Artworks adorn many of the walls and are cleverly highlighted, art-gallery style, by illuminated recessed panels. This gallery atmosphere is assisted by white walls throughout that are highlighted with black glossy paint that acts like a picture-frame for the artworks.

Originally a three-bedroom home, the two other bedrooms were turned into his-and-hers studies. The central feature of the study area is a double-sided desk that allows someone to sit opposite. The middle of the desk forms part of the dividing wall that is separated by glass and a concealed electronic blind that can be closed when extra privacy is needed.

Down the hallway, and past the his-and-hers bathrooms and through a double-sided mirrored door, the main bedroom features an illuminated platform that holds concealed storage under the bed.

Storage is featured throughout the apartment, including in the kitchen where a wall was demolished and the layout reconfigured to include plenty of space to store shoes. The kitchen also stands out for its practical inclusion of ample storage and a wine cellar. Next to the kitchen, the dining room has a fold-down dining table that can sit flush with the wall when not in use, making the area a versatile space that can also be used to stretch out and relax.
