TIA Home Design

“ A smartly planned Ho Man Tin home that maximises space for a growing family, featuring flexible rooms, openable kitchen partitions and thoughtful details for both children and elderly parents.”

This apartment was redesigned with smart, space-saving ideas to suit every generation in the family.

Owned by a young couple, the 1,000 sq ft flat in Ho Man Tin was transformed on a limited budget to create two additional rooms: a master bedroom with walk-in wardrobe and ensuite, and a tatami area that can be closed off as a fourth bedroom. Circulation space was also reduced by reworking the layout between the master bedroom and the child’s room, allowing more usable living space.

To make the kitchen feel more open, a custom wall was introduced using glass panels at the lower level and pivoting timber panels above. This flexible design allows the wall to visually “disappear” when opened, enhancing the sense of space. A similar idea was applied to the walk-in wardrobe, where a mirrored door opens a full 180 degrees, creating a dressing-room feel.

The layout was carefully planned to accommodate visiting parents, providing them with private and comfortable spaces. Safety was also a key consideration for the couple’s newborn, with high-mounted custom cabinets and rounded corners throughout. For the elderly parents, a continuous handrail was added along the corridor, cleverly doubling as a picture rail.
