噶瑪巴致詞噶瑪迦珠香港佛學會重修開光慶典 Karmapa speech for the re-opening of Karma Kagyu HK Buddhist Center
Buddhist Centre Design
“ A spiritually immersive Buddhist centre personally commissioned by His Holiness the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa, blending practicality with authentic Tibetan Buddhist craftsmanship.”
Karma Kagyu (Hong Kong) Buddhist Centre is the only official centre in Hong Kong directly affiliated with His Holiness the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa. It was a great honour for our team to be personally appointed by His Holiness to undertake both the interior design and project supervision, with all design proposals reviewed and approved by him.
The design approach focused on practicality while creating a strong sense of spiritual atmosphere and immersion.
At the main entrance, a full-height portrait of His Holiness sets a respectful and contemplative tone. To the right, a compact exhibition area and retail corner introduce Buddhist culture in an approachable way. A grass-carpeted area provides a relaxed setting for casual interaction and film sharing, encouraging openness rather than formality.
Further inside, the layout unfolds into a small library, office spaces, and living quarters for resident lamas. On the left side, visitors pass Buddhist scriptures and a restroom whose external wall features Tibetan mural-inspired artwork, subtly guiding movement through the space.
From the centre, worshippers enter the main prayer hall, where the atmosphere shifts into a deeply immersive Tibetan Buddhist environment. All murals and sacred imagery inside the hall were hand-painted on site by monks from Rumtek Monastery in Bhutan, resulting in a space rich in cultural depth, craftsmanship, and spiritual presence.
