“Reflect is a chair that uses mirrored reflection to transform sitting into a moment of contemplation about the self, the environment, and layers of life.”

Ambassadors of Design, Hong Kong

Reflect is a chair design created around the idea of reflection and interaction, presented as part of the MUJI “My Chair” Project. Through a highly reflective surface, the piece brings both the user and the surrounding environment into the design experience, transforming the simple act of sitting into a moment of self-awareness and spatial dialogue.

The form is based on a restrained geometric structure, finished with a crumpled, mirror-like metallic surface that continuously shifts with light and movement. As people approach or sit down, their own reflections, together with fragments of the space around them, are captured, distorted, and recomposed, creating a visual feedback that feels both familiar and unfamiliar.

Using physical reflection as a metaphor, Reflect extends into a psychological and emotional dimension. The chair is not only a functional object but a medium that encourages people to rethink and reconsider—about themselves, others, family, the environment, the future, school results, work, money, and ultimately, their own state of mind.

Presented as part of an exhibition installation, the piece combines object, text, and display context to elevate the design beyond furniture into a thought-provoking artifact. With a minimalist yet expressive visual language, Reflect aligns with MUJI’s emphasis on simplicity, everyday life, and human-centered design, turning reflection into a quiet but persistent conversation.
