Children’s Education Centre Design
“ A playful, music-themed children’s education centre designed entirely from a child’s perspective. With interactive walls, sound-based installations, and flexible play spaces, the 5,000 sq ft centre encourages curiosity, creativity, and learning through exploration.”
This project marked our very first children’s education centre design—and that was exactly why the client chose us. Starting fresh allowed us to approach the space with originality, creativity, and a child-first mindset.
Instead of a traditional reception desk, children are welcomed by a large, open play area the moment they enter. Nearly the entire 5,000 sq ft floor area is dedicated to play and exploration, including walls outside the classrooms. With music as the core theme, the design encourages children to discover, interact, and learn through movement and sound.
The scale and proportions of the space are carefully designed around children, aiming to spark curiosity and nurture their natural talents.
Upon entering the main hall, children are greeted by a flexible play zone fitted with floor mats and stools that can be rearranged like puzzle pieces. The reception counter, designed as a glowing “light box,” is positioned beside the shoe storage, which is finished with brightly coloured fabric to create a cheerful atmosphere.
The ceiling is left exposed and painted black, paired with circular pendant lights. This visual trick ensures that despite a ceiling height of only 2.1 metres, the space feels taller and more open.
Each classroom features a unique music-related theme. In one room, children can remove and rearrange magnetic puzzles on the walls. Another classroom is decorated with bold primary-coloured circles—some are drums that produce sound when struck, while others are purely visual elements. This playful setup encourages exploration while developing colour recognition, coordination, and auditory awareness.
Another classroom features a wall filled with spherical elements, allowing children to place balls into matching openings, strengthening hand-eye coordination.
One corridor is lined with hollow wooden tubes that produce different tones when tapped. Longer tubes are connected with speakers, enabling children at opposite ends to communicate through sound. In another play area, children can freely attach photos or draw directly on the walls using special paint.
Each classroom includes uniquely shaped windows fitted with one-way mirrored glass, allowing parents to observe without disturbing activities inside.
To further enhance visual interest while keeping costs under control, ceilings in each classroom are partially opened to expose services, and every room features a different shape and colour—an effective strategy for a creative project with a limited budget.
