“A public museum designed as a flowing narrative—where tradition, education, and spatial warmth guide visitors through the knowledge of Chinese medicine.”
Commissioned under the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), the Chinese Medicine Museum was conceived as an educational yet welcoming public space, translating complex medical knowledge into an accessible and engaging spatial journey.
The exhibition layout is organised around a continuous, curved circulation path that gently guides visitors through different thematic zones. Rather than a rigid, compartmentalised arrangement, the design encourages exploration at a natural pace, allowing information to unfold gradually and intuitively.
Curved exhibition walls and counters form the primary architectural language, softening the space and creating a sense of flow. Timber finishes are used extensively to introduce warmth and familiarity, balancing the institutional nature of a public museum with a more human, approachable atmosphere. Integrated display panels and graphics are carefully aligned with the architecture, ensuring clarity without visual overload.
A central seating area anchors the space, offering visitors a moment to pause, reflect, and absorb information. Overhead, the exposed ceiling and suspended lighting system provide flexibility for exhibition updates, while maintaining an open and contemporary character.
By combining clear spatial order, natural materials, and a calm visual rhythm, the museum transforms educational content into an immersive experience—one that respects tradition while speaking to a modern audience, and invites visitors to engage with Chinese medicine in a thoughtful and memorable way.
